Heated Drying: Pad, Hanger, Towel
Patent searches · bench tests · design proposalA packable heating pad for drying clothes, plus a heated hanger, heated towel and heated clothing.
A family of ideas around one problem: wet clothes and towels in a hostel room with nowhere to dry them. A packable heating pad you lay clothes on. A packable heated hanger. A towel with carbon-fiber heating elements and a magnetic wireless charging tag. Heated clothing in general. Some of it needed technology I knew existed in other products, and I wasn't sure I could adapt it to mine, so I started by testing what was already out there: heating and drying tests on a bench, including a food dehydrator with a pair of socks in it and an off-the-shelf heating mat with a load of laundry on it. I ran automated prior-art searches in January and February 2023, got a research-and-ideation proposal from a product design firm, and spent most of the time on the legal questions: could I license the tech, could I change it enough to avoid a patent, did I need patents of my own. The same searches covered a USB-powered belt as a portable power source for heated clothing. None of it went further than the bench.
